Avoiding Moving Mistakes

A few years ago, I dealt with the biggest moving disaster. I didn't pack very carefully, and several of my possessions were damaged during the cross-country journey. When my employer asked me to move across the country again, I knew I had to do things a little more carefully the next time around. I hired a professional moving team to help me out, and they started working right away to cushion all of my things. This blog is all about the benefits of hiring a professional team of moving experts, so that you don't have to deal with damaged goods.

Charting Your Belongings For Efficient Storage

When you put your belongings into storage, you want to consider what will happen if you decide you need something before you remove all your items. Not knowing where a particular item is can quickly turn into a big nightmare, and you may find yourself spending the day going through dozens of boxes. It would be much easier to simply turn to a chart and pinpoint the exact section the box you need is in, and exactly which box has what it is you need. This article will help you to come up with a charting system that helps you find your item right away.

Pack one room at a time

Grab a sheet of paper, a pen and plenty of boxes. Start in one room and pack the things that go together in the same box. Write down each item that gets put in a box and label that box starting with A1. Mark A1 on all sides of the box.

Pack the next box in the same manner and do the same thing with the chart. This box will be labeled A2. When you move on to the next room, label the boxes B1, B2 and so on. This will make it easier to find the boxes from each room when they are in storage.

Use clear bins for miscellaneous items

If you have a lot of small items that don't really belong to any specific room or category, it may be best for you to pack them in clear bins. These bins allow you to see the items inside so you can find them right away.

Chart your wardrobe boxes

When you pack your wardrobe boxes it's best to pack all your clothes for one season into one wardrobe box. Follow the same charting system detailed above for your wardrobe.

Pack your storage unit correctly

When you pack the storage unit you want to put all your "A" boxes together, your "B" boxes together and so on. This will help you to know right away which section of the unit has the boxes you are looking for.

Pack the boxes in aisles and leave enough room between each row for you to easily fit between. Your appliances and furniture should be packed up against the back wall. The clear bins with your miscellaneous items should be somewhere in plain sight where it's easy for you to spot what's inside of them.

Following this advice is going to make it much easier for you to go in your storage unit and find exactly what it is you are looking for.
